10 TV Shows to Binge-Watch This Winter Break
After an intense semester, winter break can feel like it’s moving way too slowly. Oftentimes, I find myself getting pretty bored after being out of school and off of work for about a week. I typically turn to Netflix to entertain me and I usually end up binge-watching what are now some of my absolute favorite TV shows. If you’re looking for something to do during winter break, I can highly recommend diving into Netflix. And if you’re looking for some good television shows to binge-watch over the break, here are the 10 shows you should consider:
1. Grey’s Anatomy
If you have tons of time on your hands, dive into one of the most popular/classic television shows: “Grey’s Anatomy.” With almost 300 episodes, you’ll be entertained for weeks on end. It’s much easier to keep up with what’s going on if you start with the very first episode and watch it all the way through. After you’re done, you’ll finally be able to discuss McDreamy with all your girlfriends on the regular.
2. Scandal
“Scandal” will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the series — so I wouldn’t suggest trying to watch this one while studying or taking a winter session course. Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest screenwriters, in my opinion. She knows just how to keep you interested and guessing. you’ll appreciate how intrigued this show keeps you.
3. Grace and Frankie
If you need a good laugh and you’re looking for something to keep you calm and in a good mood, this series is perfect. I tend to turn this one on when I’m in the middle of doing other things, as it isn’t as intense as some of the others on this list. Jane Fonda and and Lily Tomlin are hysterical. You’ll find yourself enjoying watching these two women navigate life as they get older and their husbands unleash a surprising 20-year secret. This light-hearted series will make you appreciate what it’s like to get older and navigate drastically different parts of life.
4. Sons of Anarchy
If you’re ready to endure some intense action, this is the show for you. I thought I wouldn’t be into it at all, but Jackson, the main character, is adorable and addicting. You’ll quickly become wrapped up in the drama of this motorcycle gang. And even if you aren’t into motorcycles, which I’m not, you’ll be interested in the twists and turns of this dramatic biker series.
5. Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
Crime shows are my guilty pleasure. I love watching Olivia Benson whip people into shape and keep everyone in line. I also like that you can skip around from episode to episode and be able to figure out what’s going on. Each episode has it’s own plot, with only the personal lives of the main characters continuing from episode to episode. I appreciate the stories, the advocacy, and the thought-provoking situations the characters are put in. Seasons 14-17 are currently on Netflix — but not for long!
6. Shameless
Get ready to laugh until your sides hurt with this one. It’s a crazy whirlwind of all kinds of drama and you’ll quickly be hooked on the characters. If you’re looking for something to completely capture your attention for hours, this is a good one.
7. How to Get Away With Murder
If you’re a fan of shows with strong female leads, here’s the perfect series for you. This drama-filled, incredibly popular show will keep you on your toes. You’ll be clicking through the theme song and refusing to wait 15 seconds before the next episode automatically starts. If you haven’t watched the entire series from beginning to end, it’s time to sit down and appreciate the creativity of Shonda Rhimes.
8. Gilmore Girls
This light-hearted series is a classic! You’ll enjoy the main characters and their personalities and you’ll quickly become hooked on the most powerful, loving daughter-duo there is. Luke will completely steal your heart and you’ll be able to identify with the many situations these characters are put in throughout the seven seasons.
9. The West Wing
Political dramas are the best! If you’re interested in power couples and political shows, “The West Wing” will surely hit the perfect spot. If you haven’t watched the entire series on Netflix, and you weren’t really interested after the first two episodes, stick with it! It gets much better!
10. House of Cards
This political drama is arguably better than “The West Wing.” You’ll enjoy watching Claire and Frank dominate the political scene through sneaky plans and backhanded manipulation. Each episode will leave you wanting more of Kevin Spacey. He’s the perfect actor for this drama-filled series.
Here’s hoping you find the perfect show to binge-watch during the holidays.
